Ripley CC 125 (30) lost to ACME Cricket 129/2 (23.3)
Six of the Prest ravages Ripley
Tom Brown writes;
A six-wicket salvo from spinner David Prest was the key to a convincing ACME win in Surrey on Sunday.
Opting to bowl first in cloudy conditions, the visitors skittled Ripley for 125 after a steady start preceded a collapse from the hosts.
The openers took on the new ball to reach 38-0 before Bahi broke the deadlock in the 11th over as Mamood's leading edge was safely pouched by Tom Brown in the covers.
His partner Mudasser top-scored with 27 before being undone by the flight and guile of Prest, closely followed by Mitchell LBW for 17.
Sam Webber (22) offered resistance but he lost a succession of partners as Prest removed Daniels, Hamza and Daniels to slip to 79-5 in the 18th over.
Skipper Baddock played a patient knock of 7 off 31 balls to slow ACME's progress before Prest picked up a five-for as Hamza charged the spinner and was stumped by James Whiting without scoring.
Al Marshall's scattergun spell included a number of full tosses, one of which struck the bottom of middle stump after evading Webber Junior's bat
Webber Senior, batting with a runner after tweaking a muscle off his first ball, struck three fours in a brisk 17 before Brown returned with a wicket-maiden, dislodging the tailender's off stump. The innings ended in bizarre fashion as Brown ran out last man Gibbons via Whiting's pads for a duck.
Chasing 126 for victory, the sun shone for ACME's reply on an idyllic English village green, home to one of the oldest grounds in the world.
The hosts felt aggrieved as Whiting survived a loud early appeal after appearing to edge Sam Webber behind.
The wicketkeeper-batsman eventually departed in the ninth over after a return catch to Hamza for 12 to the delight of the hosts.
Opening partner Srivathsa Sarma looked at ease as the mainstay of the ACME reply, striking eleven boundaries in a fluent unbeaten 59.
Dil (15 off 20) and Karim's 19 not out from just 17 balls kept the scoreboard moving at the other end as an eight-wicket win was wrapped up with 11.3 overs to spare.
Next up is the eagerly-awaited ACME fest on Sunday (13 July) at Westcott, Buckinghamshire before the Shoreham heritage match a week later.
